ACQUISITION COMMITTEE

2025 Schedule


Purpose:  To accept and/or acquire items for the Permanent Collection that meet the mission statement of the Elgin Museum and Historical Society.

Current Project:  A complete inventory of the museum.  The committee started meeting weekly in October 2024 to assess, document and decide which items should remain in the Permanent Collection or placed into the Use Collection.

Place and Time of Meetings:  We meet at the Elgin Museum and Historical Society on Tuesdays from 1:30 to 3:00.

Acquisition Totals from October to December 2024:

64 items were placed in the Permanent Collection.

24 items were placed in the Use Collection

7 items were rejected

Definition of Terms:

Permanent Collection:  Items that represent the mission statement of the museum.  These items are handled with care and used in the displays.

Use Collection:  Items that can be used for research and education.  They can be handled by the public and taken on traveling exhibits.

Rejected:  Items that don't represent the mission statement of the museum.  These items are transferred to other museums, sold or donated.
